Digital whiteboard to enable internal note taking and collaboration

Introduction

We wanted to enhance sharing notes internally on video conferences. There some external options that didn't meet our need internally, or we couldn't get past security limitations to save and share the work. There was also the limitations to how we could connect devices to the meeting so one person in a meeting room could share their drawings.

Process

I was the UXer partnering with the engineers trying to figure out what we had to work on technically to help users collaborate better. I explored what did the general screen looked like, how do you choose an app, and how to save.

These were the main screen, app picker, before our engineers merged with the Jam board team.

Outcomes

At the same time Jamboard team was coming up and creating their product. Ultimately we merged teams, our engineers went to work with them to enable the internal corporate systems and devices. Jam board launched as a part of Google Workspace and Google Meet in May 2017. It was sunset in December 2024.

I didn't move to the team because I had other responsibilities. Additionally the Jamboard team had a UX team already established also with an experienced industrial designer.
