Tenets

It's been difficult to show my though process or even talk to some of my larger projects, but perhaps sharing my tenets or values would help. I don't think all projects or programs require all these, but sometimes they deserve a healthy partner.

These can change, and they may come across as harsh, it's not my intention. I believe in partnership and some of these tenets are my internal process when working or exploring a space.

1. Play

It’s like experimenting, learning, trying, failing, trying again. It’s my favorite of my tenants because it almost encompasses all of them, but also is worthy of its own.

2. Learn

It’s not enough to find out requirements, it’s to become native-like in it, if it’s for the job/assignment, it helps you be more successful. If it’s a hobby or an interest, it helps make a better decision if it speaks to you or helps you get a perspective that is yours.

3. Try

It’s better for you to experiment, for yourself. It’s also how you learn.

4. Again

Look at the previous one, and if it’s only time cost, try again.

5. Challenge

Respectfully of course.

Ask, “why”, “huh”, “can you elaborate?” These can bring clarity and help get the root of what you are trying to figure out. Maybe it’s just for yourself, but don’t just accept that because it has always happened it has to always be.

6. Share

Put it out there, even that audience is yourself. Print the photo, print the digital drawing, do the thing with someone. Have fun, get feedback, or even look at it yourself like you are the audience.
