Starbucks RFP
To replace physical boards

TL;DR
A proposal was created for Starbucks in 2012 to replace in-store cork boards with Ripple screens showcasing hyperlocal content, but despite being well-received, the deal was not secured. Introduction
I was involved in client pitches and concepts for installation partners during my time at Ripple. Ripple screens were installed in several locations, including Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Tully’s, Robeck’s Juices, and Einstein Bagels. When Starbucks expressed interest in Ripple’s offering, I volunteered to develop and present ideas for their locations with this demo.
I knew Starbucks already incorporated music and bulletin boards into their stores, along with other common aesthetic elements. I used that plus popular connections, or the ideas, to services like itunes, or stubhub, etc.
Process
I visited Starbucks stores to gather information and confirm my ideas. I felt that I had complete control over the project, even though I'm sure I didn't. I was able to create all the assets, set the timeline, and decide which features to highlight. I knew that if the project was successful, we would have to make changes, and hopefully gain more access to Starbucks' connected services.
Ripple's biggest selling point was that we could serve hyperlocal content, down to the individual store level. We could replicate our efforts for one store across many others at scale. We would be able to show art walks, concerts, and in-store events for specific Starbucks communities.
This would have played in a 42" commercial grade HD monitor in-store.
Outcome
This proposal was created around 2008. Although I don't recall the specific details, I believe it was well-received by the client. However, we didn't ultimately secure the deal. If I remember correctly, they were either already in negotiations to pursue this initiative themselves or with another company, and were simply seeking additional ideas. While I'm not entirely certain about their motivations, I do know that we were proud of the work we had done and the proposal we had presented. The positive sentiment was shared by the project manager, my manager, company leadership, and the sales team involved.
